In Memory
| "They're Not Gone..." How many times have we heard it said, "It's only a dog that's dead"? And how, over a dog, could you cry? If you'll give me a minute, I'll tell you why. They're not gone, because they're just not here, For in our hearts they're forever near. Big, medium, tiny or small, Just like us, God made them all. And in their eyes of blue, amber, marbled or brown, They communicate to us without making a sound. They can be white, brown, red, blue or black And they have the capability of giving love that so many people lack. If you need a friend, they are always there, And they would listen, for they truely care. They understood most of what you had to say, And if they didn't they would listen anyway. They had the patience of Job and so much to give, And because of them is the reason we live. God, I know you take care of the lions and the dove, Will you watch over this faithful friend that I so dearly love? Every night I'll say a prayer, That one day I, too, will be there. They have no malice or hate in their heart, And they'll do their fair share to do their part. So if you get busy with the beast and the dove, Then Lord, let them help you - they'll do it with love. Well, I guess, Lord that's all I have to say, He'll be there in a minute, for he's on his way. And if you don't mind, Lord, would you meet him at the gate, And tell him I'm coming, so just sit and wait. And when my life on earth is through, Then I'll be there with him, too. So, thank you, Lord, for the animals above, But mostly let me say, "Thank you for this 'Faithful Friend' you gave me to love." If you have a dog that you miss, too, don't be embarrassed to show your feelings to people, or to say, one of your best friends is dead. "How over a dog could you cry?" It's hard to tell one like them, "Good-bye." Dedicated to all that have lost
